Kittens(siblings)

Hi all, any input well received. I have a 5 month tom & next door has identical twin sister(genetically didn't think possible!!!). Recently they've met and regularly play fight. It's hours of fun to watch. Will they realise they are siblings or will mother nature over-ride???. Obviously , i intend to have him neutered in the next 4 weeks. Please give your opinion,

We have 7 cats that all come from the same family, (we have mums and sons and daughters, although non of them are in bred as they boys we have were nutered before anything could go on!)

We have lots of play fights going on, and some times between Smokie & Sammy some real scraps kick off, but no harm is every done.

We have always wondered, if we were to bring any of the kittens we rehomed into our house, would our cats realise they were related!?

So I suppose that hasnt really answered you question in anyway, but just thought I would have my say :-)

we have a similar situation. my eldest cats grandson (and youngest's cats son) lives next door. he treats my house like a hotel and stays whenever company is sparse next door, he needs extra food or just fancies a change of scenery. they all get on fairly well although my ladies rule the roost and he has been done too. i dread to think what they would get up to if he wasn't, but thankfully there is none of that going on! ralph from next door is a six dinner sid, but very lovely and cute when he wants to be - he's always welcome!

Any male cat will mate with any female cat that is in season - as will any made dog mate with any female bitch that is in season.

that should read male dog! And you are cutting it very fine, as they can be sexually mature at five months.

Hi Sarah,
I'm curious as to why you think next door's she kitten is your tom cat's identical twin. They may look a like, but can only be brother and sister (ie twins) if they were born in the same litter. Or they could be half-siblings if both were born to the same mother at separate times. And I'm afraid that nature would prevail as they would not recognise that they were related by blood, in either event. Some unscrupulous breeders of pedigree cats, breed sons back to mothers, or daughters back to fathers, looking to improve colours or temperament. So your decision to have your Tom Kitten neutered is a very wise one. Six months of age is a good time for tom kittens. Hope all goes well. Best of Luck. Sheila. (PS. I have 4 cats).

Strange that you single out 'pedigree' cat breeders as being unscrupulous for what is line breeding, and improving their breeds, but no mention of all the moggies that are left entire to mate with whoever they choose, without anyone knowing whether they are full brother and sister or not. Does also happen with dogs, of course, people let their bitch be mated to the dog up the road, and then condemn pedigree dog breeders when they themselves have no way of knowing whether the dogs were related, because they did not bother to buy a dog with 'papers' or even get one that is purebred.
But then, it is open season to 'have a go at pedigree' breeders isn't it?

Thanks to everyone who answered. Result is he's being neutered on Monday. To answer question, yes, both cats are from the same litter & either twin or sired by same Tom.
They are identical to look at both facially and markings.I've never seen this before.
