In this rainy (monsoon like) season, can anyone reccommend how I train my cat (6mths old) to use the outdoors in pref to litter tray. He currently uses catflap to be wild & dangerous only to return to 'dump' unceremoniously into litter tray. Help please. Thanks to all replies (of benefit!!!)

Move the litter tray closer and closer to the cap flap (on a daily basis).... then... on a dryish day (lol!) move it outside - if it starts bucketing down again, you may have to bring it inside again, but do persevere.... Then (keeping it clean and fresh) move it away from the cat flap and also dig a little bit of your garden over, shoving some of the used litter into it. Gradually add more unused litter to the dug over patch and I think you will find that wee puddicat has worked it out - the earth is for going in...

Well, this worked for my two darlings and they now go outside no matter what the weather. I have no idea what will happen come the snow (they've only lived with me for nearly five months, we've not done *snow* together lol) but I am brave !

Thankyou Juggleling, I've sort of been doing that, even put a litter tray outdoors (in a sheltered spot) but I shall perservere with your suggestions. Or maybe I have a lazy tom!!!!
Mine has been allowed out for a month now, and she makes the most of it....However, I always keep her in at night, so I still need the tray. It's great though, because it's a lot less than it used to be, as she has taken to do her business outside during the day! Let's count out blessings eh! lol
