chickens not laying
2 Answers
i have 140 free range chickens 50 of which were purchased pol 7 weeks ago the rest are a selection of ex batts and 18 month old hybrids
my problem is i am only getting average of 50-55 eggs a day
they seemed to start moulting mid july as there were a lot of feathers about but the feathers have lessened but the eggs haven't increased
is anyone else having the same problem and do they know why this is happening
thanks

Are they overcrowded for roosting places? Are they 'worried' by weasels/foxes/owls at night? Is there an overabundance of mites on them or the night shelter?
Hybrids of what, some breeds only lay in the Spring/early summer. Do they get laying mash?
If you want to keep free range chickens for profit, they do better if they are all the same breed and age so they can be fed specific food. Even the best chickens do not lay an egg every day, about 250 eggs per year in the first laying year is good. production falls off rapidly after that.
