Hi, I have a six year old jack russell dog who is aggressive to other dogs. He seems to be getting worse!Would neutering make him less aggressive? Is he too old? What are the risks to his health? I'm afraid I spoil him as he is my only companion since my wife died two years ago.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

I think dog classes would be a good idea cause they teach dogs how to behave properly around other dogs. There was a Jack Russell in the clas I go to and he was terrible with the other dogs at first, always yapping at them. After 6 classes hes completely relaxed and will sit at his owners side quietly while the other dogs walk round him.

Hi, I think the only answer here is to establish why your dog is barking/aggressive to other dogs. I have six jack russells and they all respond to dogs in different ways. There are two types of aggression in dogs one triggered through fear and the other triggered through dominance. If your dog is aggressive through fear then a obedience class might be to much for him at first. It it best to see if you can get the help of other dog owners to walk along side you while on leash one on one first and let your dog learn to relax in the limited and controlled company of only one or two until some of this fear subsides then more on to the obedience class. If your dogs behaviour is through dominance then individual training with a dog trainer would be best until some social manners are established. This would be best for you and your dog and the rest of the obedience class.
