To my cat loving friends

I have sad news to share, yesterday my mums cat big ginge took his last trip to the vets. He's always had trouble with his back and earlier in the week his back end gave way, he was scutting about in a crab like fashion but he kept falling over and weeing, so we had to take him, the vet also diagnosed an over active thyroid so we made the painful decision to let him go, he passed away peacefully in my arms with me telling him to go over rainbow bridge and find my beloved patch to play with, he was my mums companion for 6 years, moving in as a stray so we had no idea how old he was, R.I.P dear big ginge..xxxx

Is there any truth in the allegation that Ginger Sam knobbled Big Ginge so that he could move in with your mum? I am sure that the Sun is running that story in the morning.

Thank you for that laugh wolf, so thats why i caught sam sitting on ginges head, trying to finish him off...............seriously.., sam seemed to respect that big ginge was head cat in the house, there was the odd spit and grumble but never a raised paw. Schutzengel mums already nick named sam, samuel peeps as when you open the back door into the porch he peeps round the corner at you. He's not staying in at night just yet.......oh schutzengel you should see sams face light up when he sees me, he follows me about trying to get my attention, i just wish he wouldnt use his claws to get that attention...xxx

Dear madboutcats. I am so sorry to read about wee big ginge - I have only just logged on to find the news. What a wonderful character he was - I will miss the tales about him - but my goodness, what a wonderful life he had. He couldn't have asked for more. Bless him. Must admit, got a tear in the eye reading all the messages and yours too. Samuel sounds another glorious character - no doubt big ginge is looking down from rainbow bridge and will be keeping puddy cats eyes on things!

I don't know what else to say, we love our pets so much - and when they leave us for pastures new - its still so very hard. But they will be with us always, in our hearts and one day we will be all reunited.

Ps - You remind me of me and my beloved mum. Mum was from Perthshire but down south for many years. Had wonderful garden (moved near to us) and I would spend hours round hers helping with gardening etc.
Mum had a wee cat but another cat would regularly visit - called Twizzle. Had half a tail and missing half an ear!!! Guess he had been in the wars - but he would follow me round (me and my shadow) when I was gardening there - happy as larry he was - complete softie with me. Mum was registered blind in latter years but she only had to feel Twizzles tail (or missing tail) to know it was him. Such a friendly boy. Such lovely companions.

Oh alfieblue, out of everyone on animal and nature it was you i wanted to tell the most as ive shared many a big ginge tale with you, thank you for your kind words. Ive found a lovely photo of him and have enlarged it, now just need a photo frame, he's sitting on his favourite place, on the window ledge looking directly into the camera. What a lovely name twizzle had, and yes my rough tough tom boy sam is a total softie with me as well, headbuts and wet nose cat kisses are his speciality.

Just seen Big Ginge's photo. Just too handsome for words. R.I.P. Samuel Peeps is such a cute name for Sam. Isn't funny how cats sometimes help to choose their own name to suit their character. Please keep us informed of progress. Love to Mum, yourself, and of course Samuel Peeps.

Samuel Peeps is a wonderful name!! Makes me giggle just thinking about him!! It sounds like he has now adopted you and mum!!

What a lovely picture - he reminds me of my lovely Dylan who is no longer with us - brought a tear to my eye.
Your tale about your mum rings true with me too. My elderly mother (80) lost her cat earlier this year but she's now been adopted by the ginger cat from next door who spends a lot of his time sitting on mum's knee and helping around the house. He isn't a stray but his owner works funny hours and he loves company,She is now being visited by a lovely little tabby. She doesn't feed them as they have home but their owners know they come over to see her. Cats really do have a sixth sense don'e they?

Mentioning the sixth sense again, later that thursday i went to the local paper shop to get the local paper and something chocolatly for the both of us, and while im standing at the till i felt something rub up against my leg, i looked down to find the shops collie dog giving my legs a good sniffing, smelling cat, well i had to stroke her (lola) and she looked deep into my eyes and i can swear she picked up on my sadness as she promptly put her paws up on me and gave me a doggy hug.

oh what a beautiful boy he will be playing havoc with the mice at rainbow bridge my mum lived with us for the last 11 years of her life and between us we had 12 cats, we rescued 2 feral cats who were both pregnant, when the kittens arrived we tamed them and found homes for them but the morning they were due to go mum cried as she was upset to see them go so we ended up keeping them thankfully there was only 4 ,simon and his mum have gone to rainbow bridge the other mum and 2 of the kits live outside in the stables they are not very friendly still quite feral and the last kit is issy who took to indoor life like a goodun she is recovering from being hit by a car and having her front leg off now i am down to 5 i know soon there will be another turn up we always seem to end up with other peoples rejects

So sorry to hear about your Mum's cat & the photo brought a tear to my eye too. He looks so contented in it.

It's so heartbreaking having a beloved family pet put to sleep. We've been there few times with some of our cats & rabbits, so know how you all feel.

Aw, madaboutcats - I'm so sorry to hear about big ginge. It sounds like he was peaceful at the end, though. He'll be over Rainbow Bridge now, with all our loving friends, chasing all the wee mice (who've also crossed the Bridge and can outrun cats now!!). Bless you and your Mum. Love, K xxx
