How do bananas reproduce when there appear to be no visible seeds inside the

Modern banana and plantain varieties are sterile hybrids which do not produce seed -- these are used because the seed would get in the way.

 

So they are propagated by cuttings.  New varieties can only be bred from the odd seed which is produced (I think there are ways of encouraging seeding).
