This is a tough question as there are 44 species in Britain and divided between the vegetarians and the carnivores.
Each has a different lifestyle, but most ladybirds are active from spring until the autumn and spend the winter as dormant adults, sometimes in dense masses, although some of the vegetarian species may remain active in mild winters. Depending again on the species they may huddle together or singly under leaf litter, bark crevices or holes in walls.
The common 2-spot ladybird often enter sheds, sometimes forming clusters of a thousand or more individuals. These overwintering sites are commonly used by successive generations year after year.
Phew! That's the best I can do - I hope it's ok?
