My 7 year old chocolate lab has just been diagnosed with lyphoma. We should find out tomorrow whether we can treat with chemo or whether its too far advanced. has anybody any idea how much treatment is likely to cost and are there other things we can do to help keep him well throughout the process?

Sorry to hear your sad news. I dont have personal experience, but believe the prognosis without treatment is not very long. It can be treated with anti cancer drugs and steroids etc to give a better quality of life, but the overall survival rate isnt more than a few years. Your vet is the best one to give you advice and the cost of treatment and may be a referral to a canine cancer specialist. Good luck.
So sorry to read your sad news. I have no knowledge about these things, all I can do is wish you the best of luck for tomorrow. I hope it goes well, Wendyxx
I used to walk a little Westie who had this. I used to take her for chemo treatment every fortnight, she tolerated it very well, with the chemo and steroids she lasted two and a half years after it was diagnosed and she was 16 when she died. I think her owner paid about 100 for each treatment. Hope all goes well, it's a worrying time for you x

Thanks all for your responses - very much appreciated. A bit of a glimmer of hope - the vet called to say she had faxed his details to a specialist who has said the tumor (sub lumber) and anal glands can be removed, as long as it hasn't spread into his chest. So just waiting to hear from them before we make the 100 mile journey to have xrays and hopefully an operation. Am also looking at ways to boost his imune system so his body is as fit as possible to fight it. The positive thing is Max has no idea and is as happy and daft as he has always been! Thanks again and fingers crossed.
Sorry to hear this sad news - it is devastating - I know as I have been through it with my dog. She was a whippet cross and was diagnosed when she was around 11 years old. She had chemotherapy - at first once a week (I think from memory) then once a fortnight and so on - eventually it went into total remission - she always had a great quality of life even when on the chemo - picking sticks up etc and dropping them on your feet because you were tallking to a neighbour and not paying her attention !! lol. She had another 3 happy years. Initially she had all her lumps removed for biopsy to see what stage cancer it was - from back legs, tummy etc - but not the ones on her neck as they said there was too many nerves etc to risk it. We then used to have to give her tablets which we had to wear gloves whilst giving them to her. If anything - opposite to humans - they do not feel ill afterwards - but I did notice that initially you could see she was ready for her next chemo - if you know what I mean!! The cost was around 25 per treatment if I remember correctly- although that was 7/8 years ago.. Good luck and hope all goes well - if I can answer any of your concerns - please feel free to pm me.
To boost immune system try this, highly recommended.
