Fly Penis

Do male flies have a penis? If not what have they got? Might sound like a silly question but someone has asked me and i dont know the answer.

Male flies do, of course, have bits but don't think there's a specific name. Susie Dent at The Oxford English Dictionary would welcome appropriate suggestions - and drawings.

I've answered so many questions in the 'Travel' section lately, that when I saw a question headed 'Fly Penis' I thought it was the name of a new airline! ;-)

There was a wonderful man called Sigurdur Hjartarson who set up the Iceland Penis Museum. His ambition was to exhibit the organ of every mammal species found in Iceland. He may have extended his collection to include insects.
