Not if you do it extremely quickly and humainly.

Why though? Just take it to a vet to be done, or if you cant afford it try the RSPCA and ask their advice.

I guess if you're a vet, fair doos.  Otherwise, I'm kind of with londondave on this one.
If you genuinely cannot afford to see a vet, try the PDSA. They should be listed in your phone book. The charity exists to help those with animals that cannot afford veterinary payments, but you may need to provide proof of income to qualify for free treatment for your pet.

Why would the need arise?

If you can't afford a vet how do you know it needs putting down?

And how are you thinking of doing it?

If you really can't afford it, the RSPCA are really helpful, although I'd say that most vets would have the animals best interests at heart and if you explain that you simply cannot afford it (if this is the case) then I'm certain they would try and help you some way, by either doing it for free or arranging a payment plan of say 5 a month or something.

In sweden it is pewrfectly legal. Alot of my dads hunting buddies does it. The reason is that the dog doesn't feel sad if he or she is taken to the woods. The dogs favorite hobby and is tied to a tree and never knows what hit them. If htey go to the vet they know trust me i have put down my 14 year old labrador she knew that soemthing strange was about to happen
Yeah Bea, I know it costs extra, but I always get the vet to come toour home to have any of my animals put down.  The animal then dies in it's own home with the family with it and is not stressed.

I can't believe what im reading here, how could anyone kill thier pet?, no matter what the reason is. There is a difference between killing your pet and having it put to sleep at the vet. The least a person could do is have enough respect for thier pet to have it euthanised properly and figure out how to pay for it at another time. As far as bringing it into the woods and not knowing what hit em, that is about as cruel as it gets. Im not trying to put anyone down here for thier responses but if you have a pet, please be a responsible pet owner.

I don't say I would do it but I understand why someone would do it, but Fakeplastic don't your dogs get nervous when they see the Vet coming cuz my dog hated they vet, always sticking her with needles or touching were it hurts and so on. And to Peanut all dogs aren't Pets some of them are working dogs like many dogs for hunting
