I have noticed a distinct absence of greenfinches during this very cold weather, and asking around my friends have noticed it too. Normally they are a good indication of cold weather when they come to the feeders so would have expected to see them. Has anyone else noticed this and if so what could be the reason?

Could be the cold or it could be manky bird feeders.

See the BBC article Warning over unclean bird feeders.
