Is it just my imagination or are the birds using my feeding table becoming more aggressive with the bad weather? I've noticed the various species seem less inclined to share particularly one blackbird who seems to think he 's the only bird permitted to feed on the table

Its a dog eat dog (or in this case bird) world out there, survival of the fittest and all that.

There are some aggressive 'birds' on AB / CB also. :-)
You are absolutely right - our blackbirds are behaving similarly, especially when it came to a poor thrush attempting to feed. We have put a notice out that any further misbehaviour may attract a verbal warning and further infractions could result in the moggy being released.
I think it's the cold weather and the fact that each one of them wants to hoard all the foods for themselves.
I've got a little pied wagtail who rules the roost at my feeder - he dashes between the food sources and the water all day chasing off the other birds. Can't help think the energy he uses must be enormous and how much easier it would be for him/her to just eat, drink and be merry.

Afraid the moggy option ia a no go, as while Max my GSD tolerates the birds in HIS garden, cats are definately not allowed, I'll just have to train him to act as a waiter to make sure everybody gets a fair share
I am feeing the birds and keeping a constant supply of bird seed both in the feeders and at ground level. One very tame blackbird is always waiting for me to bring the food plate out in the morning and agressively chases off anything else that comes down for the first feed! It does not put the other birds off though, they just wait for him to fill his boots and then they come in for their share!
We have a fieldfare rampaging about in the garden for the first time. It chases the blackies as soon as he sees them and is a right bully!
