Sunflowers provide a service inasmuch they contain seeds which birds feed from. when flowers fade leave the plant until bereft of seeds & you can dry the remaider & resow for more wonderful colour the following season.
some people grow sunflowers to make sunflower oil..they grow vast acres of them and harvest it..in magical terms the sunflower is under the planet of the sun,,and it has fertility powers and is used for wishes.health.and wisdom..if you cut a sunflower at sunset while making a wish .the wish will come true before the next sunset.as long as the wish isnt too grand,,
sunflower seeds are very rich in vitamin D and as such are good for your skin.  You should eat lots of them, they are very tasty too.

Sunflowers are actually compound flowers. They are a mass of tiny flowers (like, say, a head of lavender or budlea) rather than the 'single' child-like flower we tend to think we see.

The centre of the 'flower' is a mass of tiny, individual seed-forming flowers, each one of the 'petals' are another form of specialised flower that protects the seed-bearing flowers. It's a lot more complex than appears.

Have a close look next summer
