Cats claw clipping.
11 Answers
My male Maine Coon kitten is 6 months old today. He is an indoor cat.
Now his claws are very sharp.....uses scratching post all the time.
In play fight fights I have the wounds to show for it. I have no complaints about that.
QUESTION.....Do you have to have the claws clipped ?????? Some one told me they had cats for 20 years and never once clipped their claws.
Sensible answers Please .

Just a tip to the novice claw clipper... You must be really careful.. I only ever got my very old lady cat's clipped - by the vet.. As if you clip too much - they will bleed.. Inside the claw.. are blood vessels... You wouldnt think they are there looking at the claw.. but they are! And even the vet once took slightly too much off my poor old cats claw....
I personally wouldnt bother... a good scratching post.. will be enough! Their claws will ALWAYS be very sharp!!

I clip my two cats' claws. I just take the tips off to blunt them a little.
I don't care about the damage to woodwork or furniture but it cuts down the war wounds. Frankie has a white/black face and he is often has a red scratch as his sister beats him up - another male who underestimates women. He has been antibiotics a few times for infected wounds. He never learns!
Both of them are indoor cats but they do use their scratch pole.
