Cat weeing?

My 9 yr old female cat keeps weeing in the house for no apparent reason. She has full access to the garden anytime via a cat flap, and she will even do it when I've put a dirt tray down for her. She did it around the 5th Nov and when an evil cat was coming in her cat flap at night, which is understandable, but both those 'terrors' have passed and she's still doing it every day. She mainly does it when she's been sleeping quietly on my lap in the evening and will suddenly jump off and run to the kitchen or outhouse where she will shake her tail up in a frenzy, spraying her urine out, unless I chase her so that she goes in the garden. Acting like a Tom cat spaying it's territory. She doesn't crouch as normal. She even did it on my lap once! Seems psychological but if it is how do I rectify it? Or could it be a urine infection?

I am reading a book at the mo called Cat Confidential by Vicky Hall, its great! In it right at the begining there is a story of a cat that starts to wee behind the sofa after a horrible cat has been trying to get in the cat flap!! What the advisor and owner done was remove/ clean the carpet so that the scent is gone or less strong place a few litter trays in the areas she has been wetting (these may not be areas you want litter trays but where you place them is important!!) and start playing with her a few times a day this will help her release her frustrations and build her confidence to 'go' outside again!!

I have had this problem with my female siamese at varying times over her 12 year lifetime. It is always territorial behaviour in her case and relates to any number of threats to her position both in the house and in the cat hierarchy of which she has been in the top half for many years. If yours is an only cat this is likely to be incursions by other cats either into the house or even just near to the catflap outdoors.

She may have a urine infection but mine usually squats and cries when she has an infection. Whereas she seems to positively enjoy spraying!

Treat the sprayed areas with neat Zoflora rubbed on hard and don't rinse off. I find this much more effective than proprietory cat smell remover. Do NOT encourage her to use a litter tray in these places she is not urinating she is spraying. Discourage her from the activity by unpleasant responses such as clapping your hands and shouting near her.

i love how bagboy suffered with this problem for 12 yrs and then has the check to say basically that my answer is wrong!!

Its strange how i got the answer out of a book written by a woman who has made a sucessful career out of sorting these sort of problems out!!

Have you tried Feliway spray or a diffuser in the areas? It most probably is a question of her letting the other cat know that this is her house and you are her humans. Feliway can be purchased from your Vet or Vetinary supplier and is relatively inexpensive. Much cheaper than having to replace carpets etc.
