on my way, to and from school, i go across a field and i often see these cute little birds.

They are the same size and roughly the same colour as sparrows, which i first thought they were. But on closer inspection, i saw that they are slightly speckled white and have pointier wings and tails than sparrows, Any ideas what they are?

Could be fieldfares although they are a bit bigger
or a wren
wren`s are tiny though and they don`t flock together
Also have a look at meadow pipits. Fieldfares will have gone by now (if you've seen them recently) and are large thrushes in size. How many do you see together as some of these suggestions don't usually flock.
Finches? The RSPB have a good bird identifier site http://www.rspb.org.u...dlife/birdidentifier/
From the description I would also go for the dunnock, sometimes known as the hedgesparrow.

They hide in the crops, but as i cycle past i must disturb them and between 1 and 4 come out and fly away.
Question Author
The beak was to long and pointy for a finch.
Question Author
i don't think they are any of the abovementioned birds, although they do look quite like wrens so its just possible that that is what they are.
Have a look at the RSPB site I posted, molly, you might be able to identify them through a process of elimination!

i'm still not sure.

I saw them again today. They have a white chest, and are slighlt smaller than swallows.
Question Author
*slightly*
Well they're not wrens then.
And as wrens are really small and brown all over in what way do your birds look like wrens?
Have a look at corn bunting too. Look I can do 3 posts in succession like you!!

aha that's probably it, i thought the beak was different (i could be wrong) but everything else matches perfectly.
