There's a good chance it crashed because it ran out of memory, games tend to be hungry for memeory and very intollerant of not getting it. This is common on Home PC's when the startup is full of sh1te you don't need. If you clear out the unecessary start up stuff or start up normally and go to the tray and kill all the stuff you don't need. This will change the amount of memory available and the run time conditions generally and possibly the game will run further than before. If you just run as before there's every chance it will die at the same place. All the above is speculation from experience, without looking at your PC I cannot do more.
