Neutering Female Cats

Hello, bit early to be thinking about this really, but seeing a neighbours, heavily pregnant young moggy yesterday got me thinking about my female kitten (7weeks old). I was wondering what age she should be spayed? I've always had tom cats done at 6months, but have read that females become fertile before this age, and I really don't want her having kittens, esp when she's so young.

k8..not an expert but I think it is 6 months for males and females.

sqad is correct ... between 5 and 6 months,some vets will do it before if the kitten is in good health ect.Good thinking, there are enough poor kittens without good homes and I think it's a must.g.

You will know if you leave it too late... a she cat in the mood is a sight to behold.

Cats protection league recommend 4 months according to the poster at our local vet

Thanks everyone, guess I'll have to get in touch with the vet and see if they do it earlier than 6 months.

I don't wanna be one of those idiots advertising 'cute kittens with rare blue eyes £50' - I kid you not, people actually say that!!!

Yes, thats her lard, if she survives my two year old daughter's constant affection, she'll be lovely cat!
