sneezing cat

I am asking in desperation.My cat has had a sneezing problem for about 6 months now.He snuffles for a while and then sneezes continually for 5 or 6 seconds during which strings of snot fly out of his nose.Not very pleasant for him or us.He has been to the vet (at considerable cost I might add)He has had his sinus's flushed and his nasal passage investigated under anaesthsetic.He has had a course of antibiotics and a course of steroids.All in all have spent just over £200 to be told by the vet that he can't find the cause and in effect every avenue has been exhausted.Has anyone else encountered this problem please and was it resolved? would be very grateful for any advice as it must be uncomfortable for him.

Hi, our cat had a problem very similar to this. We thought that he
had a cold but it turned out that he had infected gums and
had to have some teeth out (including a fang), and a course
of antibiotics. As soon as the infection cleared up, he was fine - no
more sneezing.

strange you should say that.I have noticed that he is eating out of one side of his mouth and very tentatively.I dismissed toothache because thought that the vet would have checked for that while he was 'under'. might be worth taking him back and asking him to have a look

One of my cats gets hay fever, when I suffer so does he. It's not very bad so we tend not to treat him, it doesn't spoil his enjoyment of life. Your poor puss sounds very uncomfortable - you might be right, they may have looked for one cause but not another. Hopefully if there is a tooth infection, treatment will cure his problem.

some cats get chronic nasal infection with infective flare ups that require antibiotics, there are a couple of things that help manage the snot problem a) if your cat has milk try stopping it for awhile
2) trigger the sneeze when you have tissues handy, makes it easier to clean up...our walls were covered with little Smudge snots

It usually follows an infection with one of the common viruses cats get, and is like having chronic sinusitis there are also anti inflammatory medications approved for feline use that can make puss more comfortable... especially if it is an older cat.

We had a cat with tooth and mouth problems and she continously sneezed with loads of snot. She dribbled too. Hope you get it sorted.

Take your cat to the vet, it is in pain and needs treatment before it gets worse.

tastymorsel, how is the cat now? I would endorse going to another vet, yours doesn't inspire confidence so far....
