I have a one year old cat- we live in the countryside.
Only thing is she is killing one sometimes two animals a day (mouse, shrews, birds, voles)
It's getting ridiculous and yesterday I had to watch a bird die that she brought in (it died after few mins)

I just dont know what to do to stop her- She has a bell on her collar and I have punished her by giving her a little tap on bottom but nothing stops her.
Anyone got any advise except for moving away or locking her in??!!

Smacking a cat won't work...she won't know what the tap on the bottom is for.

She's a cat...that's what they do. Leave her to it....It's horrible being greeted with dead animals but they are animals.
That's what cats do.
Except for mine...the big wuss wuss.

He did catch a fly once...

That's exactly what they are. They are doing it to say thanks for looking after them. Like a baby tries to give you poo.
natural behaviour for a cat - unkind to reprimand her - if it upsets you so much why not get a pet that doesn't kill things?
When we had a cat it just used to leave the tail of what she killed,I spose just to show she had killed something :)

I know cats kill things-I've had 3 in the past, but they would kill one a week if that, so just seems a little extreme! But like say suppose nothing can do, I dont want to upset her, but upsets me..
Ours leaves us a present of a small bird every weekend. We wait until he isn't looking, then bin it.
I doubt it would offend the cat if you put it in the bin when it was looking...

I'm just guessing that a cat might not have any concept of what a bin is!
murp has six bells on her collar, she can't move without making a noise mwah ha ha ha

but serioulsy it stopped her - and me having live things dropped on me at stupid oclock
''I'm just guessing that a cat might not have any concept of what a bin is!''

Not even a wheelie bin? They don't watch the news then...
Oh yes, cats understand what bins are. They are alternative providers of food once they have discovered how to open the foot pedal.

When I lived alone, I heard a noise one night, got to the bottom of the stairs and there was ASBO with the chicken carcass I had stuck in the bin earlier. How he had got it out, I shall never know.
Ack! You beat me to it snags!
I was under the impression that most people were aware of the fact that most cats kill mice and birds.

You should not even think about depriving your cat the most natural thing in the world, to hunt and kill small prey!
bugger off ratter, after having live mice and birds dropped on my in the middle of the night then having to contain cat in one room whilst i hunt the poor things down and release them, thats it, its bells for murph!
My dog use to kill birds and rip them to shreds in the house. How he caught them is beyond me...
I always wondered why they dont do mouse flavoured cat food
Indeed. It would make more sense than something like tuna. How many cats go deep sea fishing?
