If you bring a dog inside and keeps its lead (one of those pastic-cased adjustable ones) on' which is placed on the floor (so the dog could quite easily drag it along if they wanted), is it normal for the dog to act as if it is anchored to the floor and can abrely move whilst still attached to it?
ps for those of you that don't know, she's a border collie so it isn't as if she's a tiny little terrier or puppy that would struggle to drag the lead (she just did very reluctantly after mum came in and got me to take it off of her.)
Why on earth, if your dog is in the house, does she still have the lead on her!! By not moving, she is clearly more sensible than you, she won't be putting herself in a position where she could end up tangled in the lead and hurting herself!!
Because when mum walks her she comes in and jsut throws it on the floor for me to sort out. During which time Molly is stationary. This time I had a biscuit for her so she did actualy come to me.
PS I don't leave it on her only mum does on the occaisions when she walks molly.
I'm not sure, but my Yorkie does this (and it's a lightweight version of the plastic retractable lead, so it's not too heavy) - as soon as it's off, he goes back to his normal self - running around, up and down off the sofas, barking and throwing his toys around, lol
One time we were going out a few minutes after I got back from school so mum had taken her out in the afternoon. When i came back, molly was in the hall with muddy paws and her lead on the floor, god knows how long she'd been there . . .
She understands that when she's in the house with her lead on, she's to wait because she's going somewhere and someone will be picking the lead up and taking her.No point in 'disappearing'. She's not to know she isn't.
I had a poodle that always did that. I once went to a vet's appointment for him, got three miles down the road, and realised I'd forgotten something. The dog. When I got back to collect him, he was still sitting with his lead on where I'd left him.
