Baby Goldfinch - Window Collision

Sitting in the conservatory this morning when a baby goldfinch crashed into the window. Seeing it was stunned, I placed it in an open nesting box and an hour later it had, I guess, flown. Good luck little fellow.

Smart move Arrods, lets hope the little guy is ok!.
You may want to think about some stick-on decals on the window to hopefully prevent a occurrence.

Yes Chipchopper (and thanks Tilly2) I should now be thinking of the decal idea. We get quite a few wood pigeon 'spread eagle' marks but so far no fatalities. They usually only target one window so putting a decal on just the one should suffice.

Ah, its just a sticker Tilly, It may detere birds from flying into the window, usually a bird of prey outline has the desired effect, I'm sure the RSPB sell them

Tilly, I don't really know, birds may be a little weary at first but I think they will soon become accustomed to the decals.
It seems that a lot of small birds that hit windows have been chased by a predator and are seeking an escape route.
Hopefully, the small bird just might take evasive action if it sees something that looks like the thing thats chasing it.

The RSPB recommend stickers depicting birds.I put a dream catcher depicting two birds on a branch and have no birds flying into the window since then.

The reviews are not good on that site, though. people are saying that the bird strikes have actually increased. If I do get some, I will get the bird of prey ones. They might be more of a deterrent than a pretty little wren.

Defo a B of P Tilly, Surely the Robins aren't a deterrent? I know they can be stroppy but that's taking it a bit too far;-))

Our resident robin rules the garden with a beak of steel. He's a terror! He's worse that the resident Sparrowhawk. :-)

The Sparrowhawk's only interested in the pigeons, Ladybirder. The robin would be too much trouble. :-)

Bit off topic but I had a goldfinch feeding a young/fluttering/greedy chaffinch on my bird feeder the other day. Never seen this cross species feeding before.

That is unusual, I suspect, Corylus. I have seen a dunnock feeding a cuckoo but that's quite common.
