I've finally got round to putting mine out int garden.
Within 15mins I had; blue, great, coal and long tailed tits and gold, green and chaffinches. Good start to the winter.
Good start. So far I have the entire neighbourhoods flock of starlings and sparrows plus one goldfinch and a robin when they can get a beak in. Bluetits more interested in pecking about in dead flowers and plants looking for insects at the moment.
Good for you Melv, just at the time they are starting to most need help feeding. You will get as much gratification out of it as they do. Nothing nicer on a winter's day to see and hear them all cheerfully tucking in. And what a good selection you have already. Brilliant;-)
Squirrel proof feeder LOL.
A while ago, a squirrel got into mine and fed all afternoon and then couldn't get out again and was stuck. I had to "help" him out.
In the bad winters several years ago, I was getting over 50 gold finches, 16 bullfinches, a reed bunting, redpolls. The icing on the cake was a willow tit.
I went for an industrial walk on Sunday on the river Don, as the local parks and the peak district are packed. Got the usual waterfowl and a couple of gooseanders a nice surprise was a water rail out in the open.
