Eradicated threads/suspensions

Hi Ed/spare/moderators.
I accept that there is a 'keep it nice' ethos here and I do my best to stick to the rules but do you *have* to nanny this place so much that threads are zapped and people are suspended so readily ?
Surely a little more 'let it run its course' lenience is not asking too much and a little less censorship will allow personalities/views be seen in all their true colous, warts and all.
I appreciate that you have to draw the line somewhere, but I have seen a lot of threads pulled that were crammed with fascinating insights, colourful and constructive viewpoints and several posters suspended summarily for reasons that seemed pretty innocuous to me (even though they may also conflict with my own views).
My suggestion: please give warnings if you think someone is spoiling the ship for a ha'pennyworth of tar rather than just deleting entire threads/suspending people.
Thanks.

Only Ed can delete individual answers, redhelen - so someone (anyone) must have reported your post, then Ed makes the decision.
Or perhaps the Ed was reading in and decided it should go? Just a thought.

boxtops....I feel sure a Mod will correct me if I am wrong.

Moderators can remove a posting and also suspend anyone they consider has breached the rules of AB. They have been given such authority by the Ed.

Ron.
Can't give a true response as to whether I agree with its removal Helen as I didn't see the comment.

But mods can't remove individual reports, only the Ed can. And sometimes they get removed so quickly that I wonder if peeps have even had the time to report. I once saw an iffy post appear and no kidding, it disappeared within seconds. That must've been the Ed looking in and deciding it was for the chop.
Sorry, amend that ^^^ to "Mods can't remove individual posts" (not reports).
"Perhaps boo would like to explain what was wrong with my answer on mercia's thread today? "

Me? Why? I didn't see it.
I agree with Mrs C, we have been told several times that mods can suspend people, or ban in extreme circumstances e.g. trolling, but they can't remove a single post on any thread. Only the Ed can do that.
I think the point is.. does this happen fairly?
(See my idea about someone posting a summary every 100 or so posts hasn't caught on then.)
do you want to give it a go, sherrard? ;o)
rofl sherr- read page one, then multiply that by 11 pages, as its basically the same posts, just re-worded.
Hi sara and Boo - no, I am the short-cut-kid! Just wanted someone to give me the general gist of things.

I don't know how anyone is 'protected', by the Ed or anyone else. If the Ed and all 127 mods don't remove a post, then maybe there's nothing wrong with it? If they don't suspend someone, maybe that someone's not broken any rules?
As are yellow marigold gloves.
Sorry boxtops....I disagree. The Ed can't watch everything in AB. He does have helpers and they have been given a number of powers; which I understand to include removing posts.

Well, I have to stand my ground on this one, Ron, as I believe that I'm right - Ed has clarified several times that individual posts can't be removed by the mods (unless something has changed in the last fortnight while we've been on holiday).
If a mod bans someone, the whole post disappears, if they are suspended the posts stay but the poster can't post during the suspension. Only Ed can pull a single post from any thread. IMO.
