In the advice given you state "Although thanks should be forthcoming........" . Can you not do something about a poster who has asked over 400 questions and answered twice? He frequently duplicates questions and is reported. When someone asks for more info he never answers.Never even a please nor a thank you. It seems he's just thumbing his nose at us and showing a disgraceful lack of manners.I must admit I got a bit cross? with him and asked him why he never acknowledges any answers and requests but got no answer. People are still helping him but I've stopped.Probably nothing can be done but at least I've got this off my chest. I'm not usually a moaner,ED!!

why not email the ed in confidence?
I know who you mean (name ends in 275). I wondered,if, like another poster with a similar record, he/she had a browser which doesn't make it easy to reply to his/her own threads, but in the case you refer to the two answers were comments on his/her own thread rather than answers which shows at some stage he/she has a browser which allows this.
But I think there is no reason to ban such users just for failing to say thank you or answer queries. I suggest are all free to choose whether to help or not help these posters.
However there may be a case for discouraging multiple posting or consistently ignoring requests to provide proper clues, letters etc
I don't know who you mean (don't tell me) but I presume it's just somebody who wants other people to do his crosswords for him or something of the sort. That's more or less the core function of the site, so I don't think there's any point in banning him. Just ignoring his posts is probably the way forward.

I don't want him banned. If he can post questions however surely it's possible to add a please.Anyway ,factor30 as you point out we can choose whether or not to answer.
cazz1975.never thought of that-good idea- but I won't bother now.
I'm beginning to wish I'd kept quiet-I'm not a stirrer-well,not often!
I want to know who it is so's I can................er help them :-)
There are more annoying things - like posters who always post answers twice, or people who post the same question in several threads at once, or post their thanks in new threads....
lets call a spade a spade, craft - cran275 - some 430 Qs and 2 Answers...impressive arrogance, me thinks or plain unadulterated rudeness.
ooh thanks DT :-)

Oh,dear,craft1948, just wanted to ask the Ed if he could give the poster some advice-no lynch mob!!
Moi................lynch, I'm far too tactful for that.
Yeah com-on lets get em!!! ;-)

Seriously though it may seem rude to some folk when not thanked for a reply/answer but after all this is foremost a Q and A site not a getting to know you site. and maybe the person thinks we're automated, machine like.
well then if he learns - but then he probably doesn't look beyond his narrow world and realised that some of us do appreciate the occasional t-y, just as in real life.....

A Lynch mob, hah......Hanging, yes!
No idea who you're all talking about :)
Whoever he is Ed...Perhaps his number's up. :-)

Dearest cran275 has now moved on to 459 questions but still only two answers and no thank yous. Will I help him? No thank you.
If you look at his answers they contain more questions and don't actually answer anything, boycott him!!
Baldric - he has joined a list of five other 'insignificants' on my boycotted list.
> Will I help him? No thank you.

But plenty of other ABers will! There's simply no incentive to follow accepted netiquette nor the Ed's guidelines specific to this site, e.g. for asking crossword questions.
I am struggling hard to avoid cross words to express my feelings on this one.

Anyway, I have now started a list of ABers to personally boycott and I already have a 'number' on it.

Ron.
