They may be necessary, though having 4 splashed on the page is too much, however i am quite disturbed by the fact that a site i recently looked up and purchased an item from now appears when i open out AB. does that mean that one is being targeted, and that your details are now known. Perhaps the ad is only privy to me, but i don't like this one bit.
I don't really mind the adverts to be honest, but I do get annoyed by the ones that advertise something you've just bought from the shop you've just bought it from, what's the point of that?
As these adverts are now industry standard, and are based on your browsing history, and preferences, as well as paying for AB to remain a free to use site, I would suggest that they are a small price to pay for our enjoyment of extending our little grey cells.
Thinking I was doing AB a favour, I clicked an advert for Kia Cars and now wherever I go within AB there appears an advert for the Korean car manufacturers. In fact, I once had four adverts for the firm on a single page.( One on each side , another on top of page and the forth alongside 'best answer box'.)
em...Good on yer mate.(As the Aussies say.) I am timid and don't want to fall foul of the Ed.!! (Chicken perhaps.) Nevertheless, I wish I knew how to block the adverts, which are now becoming a positive pain in the posterior.
I use Firefox and have got 'Adblock Plus' installed. However, if I engage 'Adblock' on AB the result is the Topics are all listed but then I am unable to access any of them.
Thanks em for the call which you have put out to other ABers. I doubt that any of the respected AB techies will respond because I have mentioned this in the past and none of them have responded. Nevertheless I am able to live with the position because of my love for AB.
