Has he been on advanced course, pal of mine did, cost her a few hundred but she thought it money well spent.

I can understand that. Me and my parents were less than happy when my sister bought one (particularly knowing the way she drives her car). However, she had proper instruction to an advanced level and rides carefully.

Rode bikes for years when I was in the RMs, still got my Licence, but wouldn't go back on a bike nowadays!

Gawd, I had that as well of my mom many years ago when I bought my Lambretta SX 200. Looks like things don't change then.

As long as he is sensible and gets the proper protective clothing (unlike my very naughty daddy) I can't see a problem with it. In fact it makes him more attractive.

what are the motorcycle laws these days? it used to be 49cc at 16 and then when 17 you could get a 125 on L plates until you passed the 2 part test. Then you can buy whatever you fancy.

proper instruction is the key through to advanced courses,,....birthday and christmas pressies solved being a small upside for you.

When I was 16, you could ride up to 250cc on L-plates.

Has booked his CBT - yes he has been driving since he was 18 and owns a Mercedes 222 series (I think thats what its called). He has done advanced driving course aswell.

He wants this bike because its a nightmare in the traffic getting to and from Canary Wharf in London where he works..............he says a motorbike would be better for that............

I have just lectured him on statistics of losing limbs etc on bikes..........and today started off so well. {:o(

I'd be happy if one of my kids (if I had any) wanted to get their bike licence.

I have a bike. It's just unfortunate that I can't afford the CBT and my legs are too short for it.

Get him to have advanced training. A good mate of mine is an instructor on bikes for advanced training and he strongly believes that his training and experience is what has kept him safe.

I can understand you are worried Towie, but if he has advanced instruction, appropriate safety gear and rides sensibly, he is already starting to minimise the risks.
