Hi, can anyone assist please?
Recently on my nearly new Samsung laptop it has taken some 3 to 4 minutes to boot up ( it used to be very quick) and then when the Windows screen appears it is again slow to go online and when I click on an icon (say emails or ebay or any) the little loading circle goes on for ages before connecting!

I went into msconfig as suggested by a friend to see what settings I had in startup.

In 'General' it has 'select system start up' which has this button highlighted and below that are 2 squares. 'load system services' which I have ticked and beneath that 'load start up items' which I havn't ticked.

Going across to START UP I have the option of ticking lots of items, but I have only ticked 3 which are Bing Desktop, AVG Int and GCM Telefonica,

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong please?

One final thing it seems to have gone slower since I installed the premium trial version of AVG 2014 recently! Could this have anything to do with it? My previous Int. Security was Kaspersky.

Thanks everyone.

Have you removed every last trace of Kaspersky? That could be a problem, as this sort of program doesn't give up without a fight!

GCM Telefonica might be taking time to connect - try ticking the "load startup items" and unticking CMC - perhaps it's set up to auto start itself.

You might try this - when you start up, and the computer is sitting doing nothing, press Control - Alt and Del all together.

This brings up the program manager, and if you click on Applications, you can see if anything is running, such as GMC. Click on Processes to see the same sort of thing, although the info isn't a lot of use - many programs are run under a svchost heading.

Don't stop anything unless you're very sure you don't want it.

Good luck!

I think that Bing desktop may be causing your delays, someone here isn't very impressed with it.

I'd go back to Start Up and remove the tick, click Apply and OK then do a restart to see if there is any improvement, you can always switch it back on if you want. Personally I'd remove Bing Desktop completely.

More details on your pc please and what internet browser are you using?

Thanks both. Slack Alice, I think you might be correct! I untickd Bing and everything speeded up by about 40%!

The link you gave me was 2012 and I take their points, I have always used Google but have recently left them they are finishing. The reason I chose Bing was that there e fewer pop ups than say Yahoo or similar.
There are others I know but don't know what is best.

Someone mentioned Google Chrome. What do you suggest anyone?

Thanks

if you want to speed up your computer, you should try to disable some unwanted programs which you are out usually use them. you can stop the process of AVG, Security was Kaspersky, and you can open them again if you need. and you also try to clear up your system like deleting unwanted files, temp files. if you really don't know how to do, you may search online tech to help you
Bing is dodgy!
For internet browsing I use Mozilla Firefox wouldn't use IE except in dire emergency.

Thanks again all. I have always used IE and am used to it (I am elderly!). Perhaps Google Chrome? are they still going? Why did Google stop their search engine - they were great.
AVG is also notorious for causing slow startup.
You can still get 'Google' as a search engine on IE.

You need to add it via 'Manage Add Ons'.

Thanks for that SlackAlice. I was not aware of that!
It could be you are infected with a virus or some sort of malware. Have you run a scan with your antivirus program including a BOOT TIME SCAN some of the baddies hide in the boot sector .Also download and run Malware Bytes if you haven't already.
