This has been asked many times, but we really, really, really do need to know where posters live. It is essential for all Natural World based Q's as well as the Travel section, Gardens - and  just about every other category as well.

A lot of us are  getting to the point where mind reading is a necessary qualification just trying to identify a creature or bird etc. that has been described by a lovely poster that perhaps doesn't have English as their first language.

Please answer our plea dearest ED as this has been a problem for a very long time - and armed with this knowledge at least we will have a good starting point.

Yes but we need to know the location at the point of asking not necessarily answering don't we...?  Therefore there needs to be some kind of prompt, eg next to submit Q button, otherwise people just won't think to do it.  Er is this getting confusing or is it me this morning?

thank you all, my maidenly modesty will be preserved. And obviously - as I said before - anyone reporting the spotting of rare beasts etc should explain when and where they saw them, otherwise they will be inundated with useless replies; that's only common sense, surely? (I know, I know, not all AB users implement common sense on a daily basis, but they could try.)

okay, compromise suggestion: in My Profile, along with name and email and such, there should be a new optional slot for location. If you fill it in, it appears with your username whenever you post a Q or A. I calculate that this would take the heavies approx one fifth of a second to implement - less if they put down their chocolate cake and used both hands.

We might think it's brilliant jno, but apparently the heavies don't take too kindly to be called 'simple implements' :-)

yeah I know Cetti I just put that last bit in to annoy them. I still think it's workable but it would really take until 2027.
