Television Problem

This is more a technology question than a programme question, so I hope it is in the right section.
My television needs 2 remote controls - one to turn it on to get the blue screen, and another one to get from the blue screen to opening the programmes. (I hope that makes sense). Problem is that the second remote control no longer gets me past the blue screen. I have renewed the batteries, I have checked to see that the lights on the Box-thingy seem to react to the remote control, going from red to green or the other way round, but still I can't get through to the programmes. What's wrong, and what do I do ?
(The Box-thingy isn't very old, by the way.)

Is it a sky boxor a freeview box or other.

If its Sky in theory the Sky remote should work the tv - eg. volume, standby etc. It depends on version of sky remote.


Lets assume your box is connected via scart - it would come from box to tv and on the tv you would select one of the AV or EXT settings.

First check all cables on box and tv. HOWEVER if it is a sky box, do not disconect the cable to the dish with the box powered - you will knacker the bit on the dish.

It is a freeview box, the television brand is Tevion. Television is a few years old, but has never caused me problems in the past.
I have tried ensuring that all connections are firmly in the right places.

Does the tv remote have a TV/AV or similar button?

It could be that your freeview box sent a signal via scart to change the tv to av. This is what is not working.

If you can access the av channels via the tv remote or buttons on tv, try that.

Once we get that working, try a different scart lead and then try your normal method

To accept a signal from your Freeview box (rather than, say, to look for a signal arriving into its aerial socket) your TV needs to be set to the correct source. I supect that you've somehow managed to select the wrong source.

Turn your TV on. (i.e. get to the blue screen). Then, still using the SAME remote control, press the 'Source' button. (That's probably marked on your remote control by a rectangle, or oval, with an arrow pointing into it but it might simply be labelled 'SRC' or similar). That should bring up a menu on the screen, which is navigated by pressing the up/down buttons on the remote control and then pressing the 'OK' button. You probably need to select 'Scart', Scart1', 'Scart2' or something similar. Once you've got the correct source your TV should then be able to accept a signal from your Freeview box.
