i used to be on a forum where you could press ignore in someone's profile and you just never saw any posts by them. I think that would be a handy button to have

There is only one person on here I really dont like, so I just ignore the fool! I wouldn't want his posts hidden though!
Good Evening to you too ratter!
I may be wrong but don't think bednobs means ignore regular posters she doesn't like, I assume she does that anyway like most of us. I think it was aimed more at trollers.
Like a warning sign then, Prudie? 'Don't bother looking.'
I may be way off Tilly but there have been a few newbies about lately that some of the regular experts seem to know the identity of, I'm thinking this is who OP was aimed at.
If I'm wrong ignore me.
I agree with Tilly and Pixie.
You don't need an ignore button if you just simply ignore the trouble maker.
Why play into their hands ?
I am all for allowing people to condemn themselves by their own words

prudie :) :) :)
I think an 'ignore' button is against the spirit of the site.

If you don't agree with someone occasionally, or frequently, either debate your point, or leave it alone, not a difficult decision.

it's not the fact that i don't agree with people (that's fine isn't it?) it just that some people are such dribblers, i would prefer not to read or see anything they say
I have an "Ignore button".......but I never use it! :-)
andy-hughes, any chance of you and AOG stop re typing everything on a news thread?
PankySmooch - it's simply a way of avoiding confusion because replies don't always land straight after the post which is being replied to.

This way, the poster I am answering knows who they are.
It’s simple enough to skip the original quote and read the reply, and it saves alat ‘That last post was not for you, sorry if you were offended …' malarkee
andy-hughes, you may think that but everyone reading those threads knows what's what without you repeating everything.

please try it, your posts are long and laborious enough

Dive muddy, nearly and of Andy's replies will double the length of any reply, ever reply seems to require a Novel.
PankySmooch - // andy-hughes, you may think that but everyone reading those threads knows what's what without you repeating everything. //

That's an assumption you can make if you wish - I prefer not to.
divebuddy - //You just respond to practically every post made and quote the entire original post every time. You effectively double the length of any thread you get involved in. //

We're not cutting down swathes of forestation in order to facilitate responses, so there really is no problem.

If you don't like the way I post, or the things I say, please feel free to ignore me and move on.
Ratter - // Dive muddy, nearly and of Andy's replies will double the length of any reply, ever reply seems to require a Novel. //

Please see the last paragraph of my response to divebuddy.

Thank you.
yeah an answer bank where you could pre-judge the answers on unknown and changing criteria

I have an automatic ignore button anyway - scroll down
and then you can even ignore whole threads
