I know I (and others) have suggested more than once before that we have an RIP (or some other suitable heading) topic. Every time someone notable dies there are a selection of threads in various topics about it. Today we have 2 on Cliff Michelmore and 2 on Paul Daniels and 1 on Frank sinatra Jr. Either in News or CB. If they were musicians they'd probably also be in Music.
All in one place we could look and pay our respects (and see if anyone had already posted it) - or do we get a different class of sympathy depending on where it's posted?
Well yes Islay to me it does, if you want to say something do you have to add it to everyone's thread to be fair?
Retrocop that made me laugh, I wasn't thinking..(was he a singer then?)
Yes I get your point Ed. What I mean is 'have you heard who's died today' but that's rather insensitive. When Bowie died there must have been about 6 or more threads all running at once.
I agree with Prudie
I hate clutter and would sooner have ONE only R.I.P. thread. Saves jumping all over the site although I don't visit them much because most of the modern musicians/singers and entertainers are unknown to me any way.
Different sections on AB have different readers and contributors. I rarely go to chatter bank and would miss a current news event if it was a subsection over there.
AB Editor. Could we just try it and see how it goes. I should think there are other topics that don't get used a great deal and if it isn't successful perhaps it could be withdrawn?
It's not a bad idea but there will always be duplicate posts I suppose.
Some sub-topics aren't used at all, maybe they could be removed, including these...
