once again it's time for the BBC's biennial laugh-a-thon. and once again, like clockwork, up pops David Lammy with accusations of "poverty porn", "tired while saviour stereotypes" and a suggestion that this in some way perpetuates old white colonial attitudes.

is he right? (not forgetting this is the same david lammy that accused the papal conclave of racism from its chimney) If he is right, what could the BBC do differently?

Lammy is wrong and he better watch out cos Ms Dooley will lead him a merry dance ;-)
People like Lammy are the perpetrators of racism. They revel in it and they make great efforts to exacerbate it. For him white people can do no right. The man has a serious problem.
When I first saw this my reaction was whats Lammy on now.

However, I think he may have somewhat of a point. Not so much on the "white" but on the celebrity stereotypes. I say not just white because Lenny Henry has been one of the culprits. Seems to me we have a lot of "Bono" types polishing their virtue signals by doing this sort of thing. The days of charity handouts has long past. We need to look at something different. Perhaps once we are free of the EU we should seek to do trade deals with some of these countries to generate wealth within them and enable them to be self sufficient and keep their pride?
Whichever 'celebrity' figure does this sort of thing there will always be those criticising them for one reason or another.

As for Bono,I would say 'U2 fall into that category!'
Not always a fan of Lammy, but he is making some sense here.
/// Mr Lammy said the issue was not “personal” with Ms Dooley and that he does not question her “good motives”. But he added: "The world does not need any more white saviours.” ///

I wonder what most of Africa would do without it?

Or is it time we left them to get on without us?
he's the male, Diane Abacus! MAABOF!
I suppose black folk unlucky enough not to be metropolitan chatterers are grateful, notwithstanding disgraceful adventures in the past, for help in dealing with Ebola, HIV, various other deadly diseases, clean water, electricity etc etc.

Mr Lammy is a stirrer of the worst kind. I may be wrong of course and at this very minute he's being measured for suitable attire for his trip to do some actual hands-on stuff instead of playing to the gallery.
"The world does not need any more white saviours.”

So if you're white don't donate to any African charities...your money is not needed.
^Seems to be what he's saying.
// Investigative reporter Ms Dooley hit back, saying in response to his tweet: “David, is the issue with me being white? (Genuine question).”
She added: “Because if that’s the case, you could always go over there and try raise awareness? //

Yep.
Ok so we leave all the charity work to minorities and then whites will get accused of not caring.
David Lammas was asked to go to Africa on behalf of Comic Relief. He refused!
Perhaps we should stop sending the annual 7 billion in foreign aid to Africa in case we offend them?

It's alright for the Tottenham Turnip, he's got a KFC shop on his doorstep.
Mr Lammy doesn't have to like or approve, he can set about helping in his own way if he wished to.

The easiest thing we ever do is take pot shots from the sidelines.
How big is that chip on his shoulder ??
Anyone else noticed in these tear jerking charity adverts, when it shows poor little starving children, that their mothers do not look to be starving?
aog, babies can’t eat the food that adults eat.
would the same have been said if it were the other way round, a coloured person holding a white child? I doubt it. I do think that Lammys comments with stop people from donating to comic relief. If Lammy is so much against 'whitesaviour' he needs to get out to Africa himself!!!
