Not sure where to ask this but here goes. Got a Honeywell free standing central heating thermostat in the hall 'talking' to a Worcester boiler upstairs, the display on the thermostat has all but disappeared, have found the exact same thermostat for £130, if we buy it and just put batteries in it does anyone know if it will just start controlling the boiler or does a plumber need to come and do something technical to make it work. If it's just a thermostat then my guess is that it should just work.
Do you see any reference to calibration ?

There has to be some procedure to link your new thermostat to your system; you don't want to control your neighbour's system, do you? Try looking up the thermostat on the Honeywell website and you might find an instruction manual for it.

Been wading through all sorts of things but can`t see anywhere that says if the thermostat is the same then the boiler will talk to it and not have the hump because its a new one! Hopefully a plumber may see this and can let me know. Modern world we live in innit..

When you buy it , it will have instructions how to link it up to your boiler wireless, its very easy, have done.

This technology is developing very fast, but as I understand it right now..
Certain frequencies are allocated to wireless controls. But, to avoid clashing with next door, who may have the same boiler, each controller has to be "paired" with its boiler receiver.

So, as the others have said, fitting instructions should tell you how.

If the display on your current thermostat has 'all but disappeared' could that not indicate the batteries need replacing as there is insufficient power to the LCD ? I am guessing here. Never seen what you describe.

There is normally a indication of low battery on the screen of this model, albeit very small to see, if this has been missed then it will go blank on the screen after a while.

Actually, Retro has just stated what we missed ................ just try new batteries and re-program.

Changed the batteries, unit is old now so guess display just failing. Think will invest my 130 in a new one and as people say, hopefully will be instructions on getting it to talk to the boiler. Perhaps if they go out for a drink somewhere quiet first and see how the relationship develops! am grateful to people who answered though..
