There are some problems where a trip to the doctors is unsuitable. ie My partner suffers from a foot problem caused by exercise and would like to hear other peoples views on how they tackled the problem. A form of self-help!
Thanks kwicky for that suggestion, but that might just be a bit difficult. I don't know about any qualified doctors on the AnswerBank, but a good suggestion would be to post your medical questions in the Body&Soul category. Who knows, we might just get an AB doc soon.
I have seen many "qualified doctors" on AB, none of whom turned out to be doctors at all. I would be extremely wary of any medical advice given on an anonymous forum such as this.
I second your thoughts, drestie. Recently a "so called" GP (who was outed the first day he arrived) posted on B&S, obviously so thick skinned that he had the affront to still show himself under his username, as if nothing had been disclosed about the sham! On the very first posting he gave some inapropriate advise to a fellow aber.
I would rather take similar ailment advice from the gals and guys on here (prior to seeking medical advice from my GP) than a quack, that's for sure!
As has already been said, the 'qualified doctors' we have seen have never given any medical advice apart from the odd stupid answer which you can either:
A) find in a medical journal dated 1946 or
B) find on an Urban Legends site or
C) Find out from old Mrs Flaharty at no 83
I agree that B&S isn't always the best place to go if you need medical advice..I would ask anyway and get a few sensible answers from the usual suspects, or ring the NHS helpline. It is unwise to ask an urgent Q and expect a proper doctor to answer...they are definately thin on the ground on AB ;o)
I am a qualified doctor and think that asking medical questions to the general public is a very bad idea. The public are not qualified to give out medical advice.I would answer medical questions but anyone claiming to be a Doctor on an internet forum is not going to be believed so I just keep quiet.
You first came on here declaring to the whole world that you were a doctor by profession (the first person I know of that stated their profession on their initial posting!!). By doing so you immediately had Q's thrown at you regarding peeps health/wellbeing. Why state something that would certainly cause people to seek advice, then?
drchandra cant even spell the profession he claims to be in.
His advice is laughable at times. he claimed that you will only ever know you are pregant by seeing your GP. I didnt even see a GP when i was pregnant.
