Not a suggestion as such, but I couldn't find anywhere else to post it. As a relative newbie I just wondered, who uses AB. as a UK site, it is mostly UK users and ex-pats ? Who posts from the US or elsewhere ? Has the Editor ever commented on percentages, and would it be useful to know where someone was posting from?

I always go to IMDB to look for film info - which is US based - and for just about anything else Wikipedia - which is NZ based I believe. I know there are Australian based contributors to the Crossword section where I mostly post. The Internet is truly a global chatroom !!!
Thanks DJerba - I found the thread in destinations - and added my own comments. It does seem that the majority are UK based. It make me a bit jealous to read of all the posters in sunny countries especially the person in Tenerife whos just been out for beers - when I'm off to work in a couple of hours !!
Hi Eddie -
No, I am not originally from the UK - as a matter of fact, I have never even been there! Some of my ancestors were - I believe - from Wales, England and Scotland - but that is as close as I am.
I had never been a contributor on ANY forum until one day - while doing an internet search which was totally unrelated - I stumbled across the AB. I read several of the questions - just out of curiosity - and decided to answer a few while I was there. Everyone made me feel so welcome - because the majority of ABers are very nice - that I just kept on answering questions.
It bothers me that AB is changing so much - and not really for the better in my opinion - because I have enjoyed it a lot. All the fights and the heavy handed Administration are not really my taste - I try to avoid both of them:)

Hi eddie, better late than never - I'm the Down - Under connection [well, one of them] on the Q&P site.
I found AB, as so many others do, hunting for answers to crossquizzes nearly two years ago and stayed around long enough to get involved with the K M Links game - hope to see your moniker there sometime.
My husband is the expat, born in Wiltshire but resident here in South Oz for 44 years, I'm a true blue aussie !!!
see you round, S

It's weird I found this site maybe six months or a year ago, then never used it again.
It was only when I was stuck with a Guardian Genius Crossword about six weeks ago that I rediscovered it and found it indispensible.
I'm still not quite sure exactly what the KM link involves- must look into it !
I'm still getting to know the etiquette and have just realised for example that I haven't rated replies to my queries. Perhaps I've come across as very impolite.
Should I bother ? Do I rate a reply as one star if I only found it marginally helpful and will this generate flak or do I rate every reply as three stars to be polite ?
I'm definitely in for the long haul, so you will see me around !

glad to hear it, eddie - are you related to Dusty by any chance ??
I think it would be appreciated if you rated an answer with stars, particularly if it was very helpful, but even a simple thank you will always do, you can just post it onto your original thread, you don't have to start a new one, usually the person helping you will check out your thread again at some time.
Sorry, I'm forgetting my manners - welcome on board, I've seen you around the Q&P site before - regarding the KM site- do you do the Herculis puzzle ? even if you don't you're very welcome to join in - one of our early risers posts the link words on the thread I post each Friday evening [or very early Sat. morning for me] which appear in the Sat. Telegraph puzzle, then everyone takes a shot at predicting what the link words will be on the following Mon. morning.
Then I come along and score everyone's entries and post the results - we're running it over a 4 week period and we do it all for the glory, no money involved !!
There is also our sister site the MM Links game, currently run by last months winner, rogerr which I think I've seen you on - both games run along the same lines.
Both games start on a Saturday morning, rogerr's finishes Sunday night, when our 'guardian angel' crofter reveals rogerr's link words and scores, mine doesn't finish until the Mon. morning - come and join in the fun, just steer clear of the shrubbery while waiting for rogerr's thread to come on line around 9.00am, it can be a bit of a free-for-all !!!!
Look forward to seeing you there, cheers, S

Hi seekeerz
I have always thanked people for replies and often when I've answered someone's question I've thanked them for thanking me ! But, I will start rating replies. I don't actually ask many questions, I can usually struggle through any difficult clues, and usually prefer to.
It's only real stinkers like the last few Guardian Genius's that I have trouble with.
As to your link games, I'm not an early riser on a Saturday morning ! I do work shifts though, so I might pop in after a Friday night shift !
And no I'm not related to Dustybun ! I have actually been asked this before and when I told Dustybun that I had been asked, he suggested a stiff drink would help me get over the shock !
Thanks for the reply and look I've rated it !

hey, thanks for the stars !! the time thing isn't an issue with the games, just that a few eager beavers like to try for extra points by being in early, but please drop in whenever you can.
btw, that sounds like our Dusty, loves her booze !!!
I'm off to post the opening thread now, so will look for you later, cheers, S
