Suspension from AB

Dear Ed
Last week my account with AB was suspended with no prior explanation. I have today received your e-mail as below:

"Thanks for the email and sorry for the delay in getting back to you, your account has now been unsuspended.

As none of the content on any of your postings has been explicit, offensive, abusive etc the reason behind the suspension is most likely to be due to excessive posting i.e. you have posted more than 3 times in 5 minutes. This
rule has always been in place and is not by any means a new feature.

Hope this explains the problems"

Would you please consider the following:-
1) If this is a rule of Answerbank, surely it should be listed accordingly with other site rules.

2) Whilst I can understand your wish to eradicate spam, there is often good reason to provide answers quickly on Q&P site when jointly solving certain puzzles, so can the ruling not be applied more selectively?

And may I also ask if the 3 postings in 5 minutes applies to Q&A in different threads, or only Q&A within the same thread, or both?

Since my suspension I have looked carefully at other postings, and there seems to be absolutely no uniformity with the implementation of this rule.

Those who don't partake in Q&P with our happy band of cruciverbalists have no idea of how much aggro this problem has caused . On the whole we all jog along ..there are no problems ...no abuse ..no bad language ..no boat rocking . Well......some boat rocking as is patently obvious !
We chat and help one another with our like minded hobby .
Why we should be penalised in this fashion and long standing members suspended for being helpful to others just because they post too quickly is beyond me.
I do wish the Editor would put her/his cards on the table and either enforce this rule across the board or at least make a comment .It's all too wishy washy .....much like the robot who has obviously drowned in his own scientific explanations or is too chilled out to respond .

I see nothing wrong with the current Ed, nor the last Ed who was 'hounded' out .... by a form of bullying.

I see shaneystar2 that your quiet period is over (after your double-named effort) - and you are up at the front of the pack again. I recall you stated at that time that you would keep clear of me ... please keep your word and do so?

I have no problem with friendships being made, kept and nurtured ... it's just that this isn't a chat site .... and the new Ed has made that abundantly clear. Youhave to go along with the rules .... there is a balance between chat site activity and being friendly/courteous/showing repect on AB?

Disappointed by your comment sarumite .... your suspension was unfortunate .... you are a very active and helpful Aber and give many fast anwsers ..... unfortunately you were 'tripped' up by an automated process that is inteneded to catch trolls, spammers etc. So, it happened / Ed said sorry / get over it? (and be a little more careful in future)

Lector --you keep missing the point--it can't be an automated process otherwise everyone who broke the rule would be suspended.
Sarumite and Aquagility were both reported on Saturday but not suspended until Monday--hardly automatic is it!
It is strange also that they are both key players in the weekend game we play amongst FRIENDS on Q&P.
You seem to know so much about the spamming systems on AB--but I can't imagine the Ed taking you into her confidence.

The plain fact is that S and A were both reported my a nasty member of AB and we all know who he is!

Also lector I don't see you respond to the accusations that you ask questions to a certain crossword which you haven't a snowballs chance in hell of solving (no more than I do)...every ruddy clue actually. You are quick to accept their help but then jump on people who answer promptly to your requests....that they post toooo quickly ! But you are glad of their help ..and then make snide remarks ...in fact an : encouragement for people to trip up so that you can gloat .Do you get the message ?

I had a lot of fun, and at the end of it all you wrote:

Between us we transgressed the '3 postings in 5 minutes' rule several times, and we must have annoyed some of the wiser and more experienced solvers something rotten, but they let us get on with it. We had our fun and we only got the gentlest of reproofs from Ulysses and Kayakamina.

In the cold light of the following day I was not so sure that what we had been doing was in the spirit of the site. EV is an 'advanced' crossword and I think solvers are pretty much expected to do it on their own. But this has always been a friendly and generous site, our excesses were indulged, and Crofter got a taste for Enigmatic Variations.

It is hard for me to check with any accuracy (as the 'search' facility is so bad) but I get the feeling that you are the recipient of more answers than you give. Please correct me if I'm wrong. As the beneficiary of so much help freely given I think it behoves you and anyone else in the same position to show their gratitude by, at least, tolerating the friendly banter that goes on between the generous people who provide so many answers and which makes this site so special. It would of course be even better if you could join in.

I can only assume that some great personal tragedy has befallen you, to turn you from the person who had " fun battling away" at the beginning of Feb into the curmudgeonly fellow you have become now. Have you thought of getting professional help.?

AB Ed rules this site with a very light touch - perhaps too light! I think you would enjoy yourself more if you took a leaf out of her book and lightened up a little - forget the stopwatch and the rule book....live dangerously....it might be a new and exciting experience.!

Having said all this, I don't bear any grudges. Let's have a smiling, cheerful, friendly, helpful Lector from now on!

Jumping on bandwagons and reaching to lead (only when it is safe) is an art ....

and, it does give those who enjoy 'sniping' from the shadows another opportunity to take a pot-shot from within the crowd at Ed ...... and to yet again state their view of how the site should be ....

Lector ...I do have another name on here ..black and tan ...used very little and only as a back up due to a technical hitch a while ago .Anyone can look it up and see .Under my usual name I have racked up getting on for 10,000 posts . I was Shaneystar then Shaneystar2 only because of an imposter and the previous Editor allowed me to change it .Hardly a great change ..everyone could see it was me .

I have no other user names <b/> ...could you direct to where this other user says I have yet another name ? And could you inform me of said name .

I love the way you are still pointing out peoples misdeeds ..but the thing is although lots of people have several names they don't use them to wage personal vendettas .

I am sure that this must be 'intentional' so best to let it be .... it happens to a number of Abers....
