Has anyone noticed the pinky pod to the right updating itself every 10 seconds? Yes, we have put it on purpose. Do you like it at all?

Quite like the idea myself & prefer the grey to pink!
I like it, good idea :o)
how about when you click on something in the pod it takes you to the last page on the thread - ie the one with the most recent answer on it, instead of the first page?
good idea jno!!
No problem here with *recent posts* except that to me 1m means either 1 metre or 1 mile ! Defo not 1 minute. Now, if it said 1min ago I could understand, or do I have a hair and am now splitting it ?
Its good. No flashing things or egg timers here.

Perhaps it is slowing things up for people with slow connections.
I do so admire the Ed's energy and enthusiasm for her job, and it's nice that she's asked what we all think about it before it's set in stone.
I think it's a good idea in principle although it needs a few wrinkles to be ironed out:

Changing every 10 secs is far too speedy. I've thought a couple of times that something would be interesting to look at, but by the time I've finished what I was doing it's disappeared.

As lots of people have pointed out it interrupts what you're typing, and makes scrolling down very awkward. This is obviously a technical problem which hopefully can be overcome.

However I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if the next object of her attention was the search facility.........(and then a rethink of Sports AB)
Oh no, the biddies are undone!
sorry Ed, it seems pointless to me.
I don't like it either.
I think the change is a complete disaster.

The constant interruption to scrolling and typing
is extremely annoying
particularly for those of us on dial-up where the refresh takes that much longer.
I've been thinking....

what about the people in Health who have intimate probs? Isn't it going to be like that moment at the check-out when the assistant waves your tena's in the air & yells 'How much?' across the shop. Plus there's the added bonus of reliving that moment when someone answers the Q......deep joy.

You never know, it could be CCTV cameras next!
If we're talking about the "recent posts" thing on the right - could it at least be turned off while posting a mes.....[5 second pause]....message?

Everytime it happens it freezes IE which is a right pain when trying to type long messages. It also sends the cursor into hyperdrive between arrow and egg-timer. Not sure why it's taking so much processor to do a little AJAX, but something is very badly written. Put the developers in front of a Mac for a day as punishment!

I'm on IE6, 2MB ADSL and 1500Mhz PC so pretty average config.
My cursor's been going potty ever since the 'Recent Posts' facility arrived too!

I thought at first it was something to do with my cordless mouse, but soon realised it wasn't that after all!
I love it
When I'm on my computer and the temperature is 40C my curser does exactly what you have decided all the cursers should do. Of course I didn't know you had added this wonderful feature and when my curser 'locked' for want of a better expression, I did what I always have to do and shut down immediatly lest the heat was too much for the machine. Then I have to wait 20 minutes or so for a cool down. I've been shutting down and rebooting endlessly this last couple of days - and the temperature is a moderate 26C so it shouldn't have been a problem. I decided the machine needed to be serviced until it was pointed out to me that this was now going to be the norm. So I'm in a bit of a pickle. How do I know that my computer is locking because of heat? How can I tell that it's actually locking because of some new tekky gadget on AB? Do I switch off every time my curser locks? Or do I not bother even trying to type messages on AB at all?
You know something? It wasn't broke so why fix it?
I think its a brilliant idea however..........................I hate the way my screen jams, jumps, scrolls down suddenly.........my pointer jumps, jams and generally does as it wants.........my typing suddenly stops appearing in the screen and I think my computer has jammed. Like the last ABer I didn't know you were testing this facility the other day and thought my computer was on the blink again. Please keep us updated with what is happening and what your views are Editor. My cursor jammed at least twenty times whilst I was typing this message.......grrrrrrrrrr
Another improvement would be a function where you could delete an answer. It would be handy if you make a mistake. So for example when the AB-er clicks submit, they would either see a preview of the answer before it submits (and then if they're happy with it click the button to submit it or if you're not click a cancel button or something), or once it submits you'd have a function where you could delete it.

WOuld be mighty useful.
Bloomin Heck nuoyg
let them sort out this flashing cursor first..my one looks like its been on Magic Mushrooms..!
anyways...whats wrong with the preview,you've already got.ooh...must go....somebody wants an answer in B&S.....about conkers..!(:O)
