Mrs C:
I should warn you that my mind tends towards 'literalism'. If you post "I cleaned out the parrots' cages . . .", I know exactly what you mean. On the other hand, if you write "I cleaned out the parrots . . ." it suggests that you're into something very odd ;-)
No, I didn't see that TV programme. I watch very little TV. I'm more a fan of radio (especially BBC7).

Thanks for that, Jno. My brain can be very slow at times ;-)
I'm glad that someone has worked out Ethel's cryptic clue. My brain wasn't up to it!
NK: So why do you 'look down your nose' at people who haven't got regular employment? I try to judge people by far more important criteria. (Incidentally, if you'd read my post, you'd have seen that I've got a work-related meeting tomorrow. No, it's not a visit to the dole office. It's a meeting with the area manager for a job that I'm supervising).

Ah, but Chris, what if I didn't clean the cages? The parrots could be on stands couldn't they? And I only cleaned their stands today .......
chappie is now feeling guilty - she should've cleaned the cages as well, she's a lazy ******!
PS: Nono, that clip's hilarious!!!!
Have a look at it Chris, then tell us if it made you laugh!

Hi again, Mrs C.
I can watch QI over and over again. (Courtesy of 'Dave', I've probably seen every edition dozens of times but I still find something new to laugh about in every programme).
I've also got some on the early series of 'Last of the Summer Wine' on VHS. Whenever I start to feel low, I just watch one of them.
If you want current sitcoms though, the most brilliant programme of the last decade has to be 'Still Game'. (It's about a billion times superior to the ghastly 'The Office').

Hey Chris, I absolutely love Still Game. Mind you, sometimes I have trouble deciphering the accent. Do you remember the episode where they went shoplifting and nicked a tin of salmon, then threw it at the store detective?
Have you ever watched Shameless? What a comedy. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes poignant ...... it's a mixture of all sorts. Along with Still Game, it's at the top of my list of favourites.

I'm glad we agree about 'Still Game'. It seems to have been largely ignored by the critics. I vaguely remember the tin of salmon but my favourite episode would have to be when they hijacked the bus.
I've not seen 'Shameless'. It's bound to be repeated countless times, so I might give it a go. However, I like my comedy to be largely just that, i.e. 'pure' comedy. I can live with the slightly poignant moments of, say, 'One Foot in the Grave' but I can't get along with the mixture of comedy and pathos that Carla Lane used in series like 'Bread'. (I don't want to suddenly stop laughing for a sad moment. The only exception to that would have to be the final, extremely poignant, scene in 'Black Adder Goes Forth'.
