we booked and paid for a holiday in full but need to can cel. this was booked via credit card 6 days ago. flights with easy jet. seperate hotel accomm. . all done with online travel agency. my mum in law is very ill and we will now need to fly to africa to see to her instead of our planned hol. we are gutted but family must come first. what are the legalities? The hol is 4 weeks away. it is 6 days (7 tomorrow evening) since we booked this. what can we recoup? What will we lose? as we pd with c/card does this change things.?
PS thanks to those who answered yesterdays query re EASY JET....sadly we will now not be going at all. :-(
My wife and I should have gone to Spain for two weeks at the end of March. I booked with easyJet and paid separate hotel and car hire on-line - all in full with credit card. Then my wife and her daughter (S) had a bust up with about two weeks to go. S told us to cancel her booking and my wife was so upset she didn't feel like going. In the end we just stayed at home and the plane left without us.
I scanned our travel insurance as I was thinking about ways of getting my 1000 back. I couldn't say the car broke down as they want a garage or mechanic's report. I also happened to notice the conditions for cancelling on medical grounds. My insurer says that it has to be the illness of an immediate family member such as your spouse or child. I don't think easyJet or your hotel consider your mother-in-law being ill as any reason for you not to travel with them or for them to reimburse your travel costs.
EasyJet did tell me that we could claim the tax back if we didn't travel. That's about 10 each and we didn't even bother with that. I think you are in the same position as us Eve - just write the money off and think of it all as a bad do.
