Myself and two friends booked an expensive break, £975 each. I paid in full, on my credit card - I'm still owe £400.

One of the friends (the lead passenger) stopped speaking to me for four months. After having no joy in my many efforts of reconciling with her I spoke to the travel company about cancelling. They told me I would lose £240. I accepted that loss (£240) as the break would have been very unpleasant for all three of us. The travel company sent £500 to the lead passenger explaining that her and the other persons holidays had gone up and once they had added their £117.50 each to the £500 that would be my full refund.

The lead passenger returned my £500. but my 'friends' say they will not pay the rest of my refund.

I see it as only fair that I get the rest of my refund, £240 was a huge loss to me.

I needed clarification of my exact rights so I phoned ABTA. I explained the situation, basically my status conundrum and asked if I should lose further money beyond the 30% cancellation fee that I had agreed to lose. On two occasions, two different employees of ABTA told me that I should not lose any more money. That the extra cost of the holiday for the...

Have you posted this before but with a slightly different twist?
This sounds familiar. I'll be back in a bit
Hi FGT- the previous thread was the other way round- it was a from another point of view. may even be the same holiday. Seems a bit odd to me. I'll find the previous thread.
I thought the same as soon as I read it, but the other one seemed to be from the person cancelling their place.
sounds familiar. But anyway, no, you generally lose money when you cancel holidays. The other passengers will be paying more now that you're not there.

Just how many other passengers are there?

Both were new users.

Let's see how this pans out.

VoiceofReason123- read the other thread by clicking on my link http://www.theanswerb.../Question1180402.html
and see if it's the same holiday
too slow again!
Oh good I thought i was going mad for a moment!!
Did you pay for all 3 people or did you each pay your own share.
I can't reconcile the figures either - 2 x 117.50 is not £240
my answer is the same as it would have been on the other post - tough luck - you are lucky you got anything back at all. You travelling companions now have to pay extra AND you want them to pay you back too - what a cheek!
Hi voiceofreason123. Can we help any more?
Incidentally were you previously Voiceofreason?http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/

I understand the figures now.
You paid £975.
You expected to get back £735 (i.e.losing £240)
But the holiday company gave the lead buyer £500 who gave it you. The other £235 was swallowed up by an increase in their bills of 117.50 because of under occupancy.
If you paid the bill, why weren't you the lead buyer?
I took it that the initial cost was 975 each he'd paid his £975 himself.
I don't see where the bit about being owed £400 comes in though
I thought the OP meant he paid it all on his credit card, but someone still owes him £400 in repayment
if yu had booked this on your own you would have lost your deposit anyway, they booked based on a price for all of you, because you backed out they have to now pay more, you've cost them money, it may have been paid in fulkl with your credit card but that was for 3 of you not 2.

one.
They said:- that I had entered into a contract with Virgin upon booking and that by paying the 30% cancellation fee I was no longer in the contract. The remaining two passengers who are still in the contract must foot any rise in price. Therefore, the remaining sum should be returned to me.

My ex friend allegedly saw 3 different solicitors who told her that she owed me nothing. I guess that you can pay to have your argument backed up even if you're being unfair. My ex friend has tried to make me feel guilty for needing my money back but was persuaded to return it. As far as I'm concerned this matter is now closed!
......you've given yourself best answer. Did no one else help?
