How can you wreck your eyesight? Can you make your eyesight go bad if you watch too much t.v. or by the computer?

Your evesight does get slightly worse over time if you wear glasses. I know this because I read the work done by a top psychophyisicist, who showed that without glasses your brain compensates by promoting the input from certain spatial frequencies.

It is (or always was) a legal requirement that essential users of PCs are allowed free eyetests, paid for by employers.  So to answer your question, too much tv or computing can harm your eyesight

Believe me, I had perfect eyesight before I started using computers, way back in 1985. I could once threadle the smallest needle, but alas, after spending so much time on Answerbank, that has all gone out the window. I now have to use a magnifying glass for just about everything - especially putting my makeup on!

I wear glasses and dont need another eye test till next year but my glasses dont seem to be doing the same job.I spend roughly 3 hours a day on the computer ( p/t work) plus "In betweenies" so it must be the computer or my age 56??

I think it's a bit of both FINA, as I have to wear glasses for close work, TV & PC now. It's such a pain in the eyes!

Smudge you're probably right,my right eye seems to cop it more than the left. It feels heavy as if im tired.

What a gift. "How can you wreck your eyesight?" I can think of so many ways (fill your swimming goggles with bleach, etc), none of which I would recommend. I was lead to believe that TV etc had no harmful effects on ones sight if one varied regularly the distance between ones eyes and the screen. Might be worth noting that in the instructions for video games consoles, breaks are recommended every 15 mins .
