New York City

Apart from the well documented things, what should I do in New York over Christmas and New Year?
Can anyone recommend any particulary good bars or restaurants, or any sites or shops that we just shouldn't miss?
Thanks!

It was absolutely bloody freezing so wrap up warm. As for new years eve we went to times square but left at half past ten as we were about 100 miles from the actual square and freezing, i wish we had paid the money to go to planet hollywood or something, honestly if you want to be right up where the ball drops you have to be there from about midday. When in new york you have to go to bloomingdales as it's the law oh and we had a carriage ride round central park v romantic. Ice skating in central park, tiffanys and the statue of liberty are must dos and i felt that i had to visit the world trade centre site, if only to appreciate the magnitude of the destruction - although it does just look like a car park now. have a brilliant time, newyork is ace at christmas and i'm sure you'll have a great time.
you have to go sfating at the rockefeller center where the big christmas tree is. Go on fith avenue for some shoping there are some great deals and reductions on the articles. Most of all go to the top of the empire state buliding when the midnight strikes on New year eve you can hear all the chears of the peopole in Manhattan.
Skating at Rockefeller. Seeing the "Christmas Spectacular" show by the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Shopping on 5th, 6th Aves. Shopping at Century 21 dept store (I just went to NYC, and it was a HUGE thing, yeah I'm American) across from 9/11 site, uhh Church Street. Take in a musical while your at it! I suggest Hairspray, Lion King, and Phantom
