Ed, just an observation and a thought...

If a question is good enough to stir a healthy debate and merit several good replies, why suspend or banned the questioner? I understand banning users like Bimlegend and Bamknobby, but, not all users are out to stir or cause trouble.
I think SOME should be given a chance. Perhaps there should be a bit of convenient leniency? :-)

I don't really understand the point you're making... The debate can continue (and has) without the input of the OP who I guess from reading has been suspended for their circus tendencies. I don't see why someone who has trolled on the site should remain just because they asked a question that caused a conversation. The converstation and the site can do ok without their input.
Thy might want to ask a follow-up question which might be one of importance which might be helpful to them.
Isn't the main objective of this site is to answer questions in a helpful manner?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not on the 'trolls' side, but, as I said, just an observation. There were quite a few good questions where the poster got axed.

Hi society and peepity peeps
Not all new entrants are trolls you know - some just stumble on the site or have been lurking to see what it's like and when the time's right, register to ask a question.
If it's a particularly silly one ( you know the ones ) it probably is a wind up or a troll but sometimes it is for real imo
