Why are the elderly so attention seeking?
110 Answers
Please don't see me as a "pensioner basher" in any way as this is a very serious and valid question as I do love the elderly and after all most of us become elderly at some point.
My question comes from hearing about many elderly people telling their relatives that they will kill themselves and they don't want to be seen as a bother etc.. But then raise all kinds of hell that do indeed cause bother and disruption, even here before I signed up when I read time to time I always see members that have been identified as elderly taking things to heart and then threatening to leave only to reappear several days later with a "Cooee Im baack" Why is this done? Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease? This has had me perplexxed for a long time so any input into understanding this condition will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Cheeky, we are not all like that. Or I hope not. I have never done any of the above things and as many ABers will know I am ancient. I love life and have never even contemplated killing myself. I am going to live as long as possible and be as big a nuisance as I can. I can't think of anything I can do (yet) that might be described as raising hell or causing bother and disruption but no doubt if I sit and think a bit, something will occur. Or is this a wind-up thread?

im with the OP.
I do dislike alot of elderly people (though im not saying Amy here does) and I don't think ive ever made a secret of the fact.
Pretty ironic really considering I am in my 40's and will more than likely join the very ranks i abhor sooner rather than later.
I've personally found quite a few elderly to be cantankerous, crotchety and downright rude and whilst I appreciate I shouldn't lump the majority with the minority, it does make me wary of 'em as a whole. I couldn't care less how elderly or infirm they might be, it doesn't escuse rudeness (IMO)

Wow so many questions! okay countastrong one should question the world around them from as soon as they want answers and waiting till 40 would leave you with half a lifetime of forgotten questions. Loftylottie Probably last year and elderly starts from maybe 60 onwards but there is "Young elderly" and "Elderly elderly". Starbuckone I didn't mean all but some and no not a windup. Lofty yes I visit many other forums that I haven't joined yet too. Pastafreak again I don't mean all just some. Thank you boo it's good to see that someone else has noticed too.
