Why are the elderly so attention seeking?

Please don't see me as a "pensioner basher" in any way as this is a very serious and valid question as I do love the elderly and after all most of us become elderly at some point.
My question comes from hearing about many elderly people telling their relatives that they will kill themselves and they don't want to be seen as a bother etc.. But then raise all kinds of hell that do indeed cause bother and disruption, even here before I signed up when I read time to time I always see members that have been identified as elderly taking things to heart and then threatening to leave only to reappear several days later with a "Cooee Im baack" Why is this done? Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease? This has had me perplexxed for a long time so any input into understanding this condition will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
One confused amy.

Gosh, pinki, that was lovely. Lotty we have a champion for our cause here.
True Boo...........bot most of your fun at work is taking the p!ss out of customers.
Oh come on, of course you mean offence to people and I think you are just getting at one poster but won't use your original name. Go away and grow up.

Pinkilady I love the elderly and was giving out food parcels and neighbor checks during the snow.
Naz was right though, we have had lots of fun with this thread. Well, I have anyway.
is she Jan?

i assumed it was a genuine post.

Oh ace, so im gonna come under flak for agreeing and adding my twopence worth to the minority view?

Heh- very true Craft- I have to get my jollies from somewhere ;-)
Jan. You and I agree. Very transparent indeed!! One person here (not on this thread) is being targetted in my opinion.
who?

No not at all jan, why would anyone do that? This is a real serious post!
Oh dear, I was 70 last October. I hope I don't come across as cantankerous or crotchety. I feel about 25 and hopefully treat everyone with respect, whatever their age. I think rude old people were probably rude young people! I have always believed you can tell the character or people by the way they treat waiters and people in shops, generally people who are performing a service. Don't judge us all by these people. Lots of us have a good sense of humour and ALWAYS say 'please' and 'thank you'
BOO. Just read the question again!
It's clearly a stab at bobbi... I don't even like the woman and I can see that!
So you're not having a go at Bobbi then?
B00...everything that you've said about the elderly....can apply to shopworkers too.
So no wonder the elderly may be cantankerous.
Also...if they are well into old age(70's-80's) they will remember a time when staff 'waited' on them...

anyway....to all-let's see how cheerful you are when joints ache...and you would give anything to be rushing through the crowds of shoppers, leaving them all behind....as you used to.
Just my opinion of course Lottie but a bit transparent I think.
Awww hellywelly, i did say some. I didn't mean all of them :-(

(see? Guilt setting in now, im such a wuss!)

I do agree with you, they're were probably gits in their youth too, but somehow it becomes acceptable when they become elderly, and It's looking like im in the minority when I don't happen to think that way. Respect has to be earnt, and not just because someone is old.
Oh gosh...I thought the same also-as soon as I read it.......
Thanks pasta, you are quite right. I would love to be young again, well I still am in mind, but not in body.
Yep China.
