Recently joined a reading group and this is the recommended book for the January meeting. Has anyone out there read it and if so could you let me know what type of book it is. Thanks.

an awful, awful book!
If there are nine volumes do you have to read all of them? Or has it been condensed into one book? As bednobs says it sounds very awful, awful. I would not like to tackle it. Why can't they do something easy, like Harry Potter? P.S. No I haven't read Harry Potter either.

Apparently it's group members who choose the books to read. Considering the last one was War and Peace maybe I'm in the wrong type of group. Thanks for the info.
tbh they're not the type of books i would want to be reading for pleasure! Plus i don't think i'd have the time!

That's what I'm thinking bednobs, more into John Grisham, Val McDermid and that ilk. Maybe give it a bodyswerve.
Bednobs are you online?????
yes!
Agree it's an awful book.
life is too short to "endure" books
Click http://www.gutenberg....079/1079-h/1079-h.htm for access to the entire text online. (Don't be put off by the use of the word 'volumes'.) If you then click on Chapter 1 I, you'll get a sense of the writer's approach. Go on from there, if it appeals to you.
I actually found the book surprisingly 'modern' as well as quirky and enjoyable.
One of the beautiful things about being a grown-up is that you have your own permission to throw down a boring book.
'Tristam Shandy' has been described as 'the longest shaggy dog story ever told'. The author just never seems to get to the point. I loved it.
