My mother is 87 and has read all the classic works of fiction by Dickens,Wilkie Collins, Thomas Hardy etc.Can anyone recommend a book I could buy her for Christmas.Any ideas are much appreciated.
Absolutely loved Vanity Fair.
And if she enjoys it, you could get it on DVD as a follow up - not the film with Reece Witherspoon, but the series on tv (BBC?) Andrew Davies. Excellent.
Back again - anything by Georgette Heyer. Intelligently written historical romances - very careful research. I love them, my daughters have caught onto them. I assume she's read Austen.
Too modern might not be comfortable, hope this helps a bit. If anything else comes to mind I will be back.
