Has anyone read any of his books ? Are they written as novels ? I ask because they are about subjects that interest me, but I wouldn't want a heavy " factual" book.

Never read or heard of the man but Wiki says only 4 of his works are classed as novels, the rest being non-fiction.

They are novels. He is an historian and he writes non fiction. Don't let that put you off though, he is a very good writer.

He's a historian...and his books appear to be very factual.
I'd much rather read factual history as opposed to a reconstruction that is a mix of fact and "maybe this happened". I gather from amazon revues that he certainly brings history alive.

Excellent writer.
Thoroughly enjoyed (if that's the word), Berlin, The Battle for Spain, and am about to tackle Ardennes.
Don't let the length of the books put you off. They are extremely well written and full of fascinating information.

Must admit that after carolegif's answer I'm still not sure whether they are factual or fiction as none of his titles have been mentioned. Anybody?

Also, from my link, it seems he has written novels but is better known for his Non fiction works (but no title has been mentioned to pass comment on).

What my doubt was/is, is are his books written as stories or " this happened/ that happened" Anyway, I will soon find out and keep you posted. Apologies for typos in my previous post !
