I have just finished The Spy and The Traitor by Ben MacIntyre and can order now from local library anything which would be worth ordering. My favourite books are Star of the Sea and Sky Burial. I do not like lightweight or trashy novels. Non fiction is good but I like page turners best of all. Suggestions welcome.

Silverview has just been published this week. There's certainly nothing lightweight or trashy about Le Carré's writing, so perhaps it might be worth getting your name on the (almost inevitable) waiting list for it?

My introduction to the Jack Reacher series of novels was book number 8, 'The Enemy'. Once opened, i found it extremely difficult to put down and i seem to recall reading the entire novel in just 2 or 3 'sittings'. You could do worse and, if you enjoy it, there are over 20 more to read :-)
There’s a waiting list for Silverview? I read a promotional interview on Tuesday in The Times, ordered the book from Amazon and received it today.

Not started yet, but I would agree with Buenchico that it might be your type of thing, Stargazer.

Thanks for your suggestions. Have you read The Spy and the Traitor anyone? I read it last month and immediately started it over again to get the whole complicated story into my head and then began watching Ban MacIntyre interviews on my laptop (Philby etc)

Stargazer's post, Clover, refers to ordering a book from her local library. That's where I assumed she'd encounter a waiting list, not when ordering the book to purchase.

Stargazer: We Begin At The End won this year's Crime Novel of the Year award. Perhaps it's worth a look?

The Cormack Riley series, from Dervla McTiernan, might be of interest to you, with The Scholar being her latest (award-winning) work: Amazon.com User Recommendation

Thank you. Yes, it is a library book I was thinking of ordering.
Can anyone tell me where my last question has shot off to after spending ages intending to post a new thread. This has happened to me several times and I cannot retrieve it. I am a very poor computer user. I tried everything but did not delete it.
I've sometimes experienced similar problems, where my post seems to have disappeared, that I've managed to fix by pressing my browser's 'Back' button to get my post to show again in the 'Answer' box.
Try the Orphan X novels by Gregg Hurwitz.

I speak as a Reacher fan, they are the best thrillers I have ever read, each one better than the last.
The Long Walk: The True Story Of A Trek To Freedom
By Rawicz, Slavomir

My absolute favourite and a jolly good read.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
by John Berendt

I also loved Star of the Sea and I think this is the same quality.
